Hiking, surfing and golf in the Serra de Sintra, Portugal, in January

23/1/2011

Two of our current guests, honey-mooners in their 50´s, are enthralled with the location of our eco-guesthouse, Colina Flora.  They are here for a 10 day romantic adventure holiday and have already enjoyed three days of surfing.  They are body board surfers and enjoyed an afternoon at Guincho Beach (check out my last post for more details on Guincho) and then surfed at Praia Grande, about 10 minutes north of us and Ericeira another 15 minutes north of Praia Grande.  They rate Guincho as number one, but were pleased with the instructors and affordable board rentals, and beautiful surroundings of the other two.  We are putting together a special Surfers Package, starting in March 2011, which will include a week´s stay, board rental, instruction , morning yoga to limber up the muscles and delicious, organic vegetarian pick-nick lunches and dinners upon request (we also cook for fish/meat eaters).

Yesterday we took our guests on a guided coastal hike in the Cascais-Sintra Natural Park.  We started at the beautiful and secluded Abano Beach and trekked up into the wildflower studded hillside.  This is a circular trek and takes about 3 hours and is suitable for most hikers.  The vistas are breathtaking,  the flora and fauna amazing.   The temperature was around 16 degrees Celsisus - perfect walking and biking weather.  After the hike we stopped at Casa Guia in Cascais for lunch.  Casa Guia is an old estate above the ocean cliffs which now has  several lovely cafes, restaurants, shops and garden paths and is also easily accessable from the bicycle path from Cascais.

Our honeymoon guests plan to play golf  the next two days at the famous Estorial Golf  Course which is about 15 minute drive  from our guesthouse.  The internationally reknown Estoril Golf Course is the oldest and best known in Portugal.  It has hosted many international Golf Championships.  It is has eighteen holes  and a 5,238 metre course for a Par 69 and ocean views..

The newly-wed guests plan to end their adventure vacation here by  renting a GPS system  and ride Colina Flora´s mountain bikes to Sintra for sightseeing the magical castles.  We offer shuttle service for folks too tired to pedal back  here.
