Colina Flora is in the small, rural hamlet of Pé da Serra, between the quaint moorish villages of Almoçageme and Penedo, which are part of the municipality of Colares, in the heart of the Sintra Natural Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a 5-minute drive to pristine beaches, 16-minute drive to the historic and cultural centers of Sintra & Cascais, and only 40-minutes to the bustling downtown of Lisbon and its international airport.
Colina Flora believes in being as "green" as possible by using energy-efficient appliances, environmentally safe eco cleaning supplies, filtered well water, by recycling, composting, by maintaining an organic garden and a low-chemical swimming pool. We hang laundry to dry. We support small local shops, artisans and regional organic farmers. As members of Slow Food (www.slowfood.com), we believe that good, clean and fairly produced foods should be available to everyone. We strive to prepare wonderful meals with seasonal and local ingredients. Most of the ingredients for our meals are organic. All of our towels, slippers, bathrobes and most of our sheets are made from organic cotton. We renovate using eco friendly paints, and building supplies. The rooms have lovely restored vintage and antique furnishings made with natural materials. Our guest kitchen is a cozy little building made with straw bales and natural lime and clay rendering. And instaling solar panels are ur next project.
